Observation Sessions
Have you ever watched a craftspeople at work? We have lots of amazing workers on site at the moment and, encouraged by the generous funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, we are hosting two Observation Days for you to come and watch!
The first – Lime Plaster…. although the plaster work will be nearly finished by 28 February – 2.30-4pm, there will be an opportunity to see the different plasters that have been used, and watch some of the last finishing touches to the ceiling and vestibule. This work is carried out by Limerich and they will be able to answer your questions about the benefits of Lime Plaster when restoring old buildings.
The second – Glassworks … as you will have seen all the circular windows which are round the top of the church have all been boarded up and the glass taken away to Glass Labs Edinburgh, who have a studio in Leith. On 14 March 1-2.30pm, you are welcome to come and see them working on our glass and ask questions about how they are restoring this 200 year old glass.
Places are limited …. at each event, there will be three groups for 25 mins each … this will enable us to carefully manage expectations, answer questions, and ensure the safely of workers and visitors. To book your place, please email: info@stmarksportobello.org.
